Medical Faculty of the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg

The Medical Faculty of the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg has been a member of the UCAN assessment network since 2008, having joined as part of the Baden-Württemberg Competence Network for Medical Education. Key motivations were the optimization of assessment workflows and the continuous enhancement of assessment quality.

The faculty currently educates approximately 3,600 students. Each year about 360 students enter the human medicine program. IMS is used across the degree programs in human medicine, dentistry and midwifery.

Approximately 150 examinations are conducted annually. The focus is on written examinations (around 80 %, paper-based and digital) as well as practical assessments in the form of OSCEs (around 20 %). UCAN tools in use include IMS, t-OSCE and t-Exam.

The Medical Faculty in Freiburg has extensive experience with innovative assessment formats, including tablet-based OSCEs, computer-based key feature exams and various other digital examination formats.
